The chronic kidney disease has become one of the most prevalent pathologies reaching more than 10% of the general population in almost all the countries where national health surveys have been conducted. This high prevalence and the evidence that can be highly prevented make it necessary to take action for the early prevention and intervention on the population under risk. This action must be taken by everyone involved in health care and they should implement policies to modify customs and potential risk habits for the general public.
Thus, the current scientific symposium becomes a concrete action geared at all the professionals involved in health. The aim is to be fully aware of the problem and of the current and potential measures to be taken in the future in the southern cone countries.
The Province of Chaco is an ideal place for this conference because it is one of the Argentine provinces where there is a big indigenous community which is considered disadvantaged population (more than 60,000 indigenous people from the Toba, Mocovi and Wichi ethnic groups). It is also the province where certain actions are being implemented with the aim of helping this population
